Distributism may be an idea whose time has come, but without a messenger the message cannot be heard. Here is a link to Richard Aleman’s brilliant flyer. Please, if you live near one of the cities where young people are camping out and protesting, make copies of this and hit the streets. Distribute Distributism!

I’m curious to know what this symbol is. Is it representative of distributism?
Sort of; originally it was a symbol of the Dominican order; their name lent itself to the pun “Domini Canus”; dogs of the Lord. The early distributist movement was much influenced by the Dominicans Conrad Peplar and Vincent McNabb. And the Little Ditchling community (Eric Gill and friends) were Third Order Dominicans. So…it sort of became a symbol, though in truth I don’t know the history of that. For all I know it is recent. And I know this may contradict my later post urging a non-sectarian approach, but it seemed a good match to the post.
About Gill: the man was a sort of moral monster. Adultery, incest, bestiality, pornography, all the while being highly religious. It makes me wonder if he was lacking a conscience completely. I also wonder if he ever confessed those things, which he does not treat as problematic in his autobiography. I sort of think that if he had confessed to Fr McNabb that McNabb would have either a) ran away screaming or b) administered a sound thrashing. Good artist, though….
Ya know, I attended the Occupy event in my own town here last night. It’s a very important and grwoing movement. I was so impressed to see folks talk about things I’ve been saying for so long, folks mentioning localism, making our own products, growing our own food, bartering, creating our own currencies — in short, distributism. The real Small is Beautiful mentality being discussed in masse. I’ve been considering printing this flyer off the distribute to them next time around.
Can I use this symbol on a post for my blog on distributism? I’ve been looking for a good public domain “hound of distributism” symbol.
