So..?
Update: In case people didn’t see it, thought I should repeat this from a comment I posted in the other new-look thread:
Everybody: when I say all I can do is pick from a set of existing
formats, I mean it literally. I can’t change type sizes or anything
else.
I agree the middle column in this layout should be wider but I can’t change it. TypePad does offer higher-price plans that allow more customization, but I haven’t wanted to shell out for one. (hmm…I wonder if I upgrade, modify the design, then downgrade, the saved design would still be available?…that way I would only pay for one month at the higher rate.)
In most browser on most sites, you can increase and decrease the type size with ctrl+ and ctrl- (hold down the ctrl key and press the plus or minus keys ("+" and "-")–each keystroke will increase ("+") or decrease ("-") the type size.

This differs only in color from the previous one. There are in fact six or seven called “Vicksburg,” “Vicksburg Green,” etc. They all seem to have exactly the same layout, differing only in color.
There is one design which has a feature I haven’t seen on any of the others. The code defining the columns allows this middle column to expand or contract with the window. If you try bringing in the right side of this window to the middle column, you’ll see that the column doesn’t change size, and you can even cover it up. With that other one, the column remains a constant percentage of the width of the window. I think this means it’s done with tables–whatever–it’s pretty blah looking, but maybe the flexibility would make it the best. I agree that these columns are really too narrow. I’ll try the other sometime tomorrow (Wednesday).
Yes, if you can simply expand the middle column to use most of the extra space now visible in the margins (the “dark sides” ;-), it’d look fine.
Much easier on the eyes, I’ll say that for sure!
Do you choose from a template? Can you edit the html and save the changes?
Yes/no. That’s what I keep saying: I can’t change the standard designs in any way whatsoever (without upgrading to a more expensive account).
I didn’t like this blue one at first but it’s kind of growing on me. Waiting to hear co-blogger DN’s reaction…
My reaction? I don’t know; I guess I like it better, but still would like to have the (unattainable) purdy blog, the kind that Regina Doman designs, like my iconography website (link at right), or another one she did: coffeeanddiapers.com, a weblog done by three young countercultural Catholic moms. Real pretty, with lots of color and pictures. I know, we can’t do that, but it would be nice, and more in the spirit of the magazine…
Naught standeth in the way except the lack of a person or persons with the right combination of spare money, web design skills, and time.
