You know, Ted, I hate people making broad generalizations about “my g-g-g-eneration””. There were a million things going on, and just about to head off in opposite directions. The illusion is created because for a moment they appeared to be kindred because they were agin the American monster…
I can understand that somewhat, though from MY generation all we saw is what was accomplished in the end: widespread divorce, a separation of sex from procreation, massive drug addictions, horrid greed, and massive destruction of the faith, not to mention the 1/3rd of our brothers and sisters that were never allowed to live in the first place.
I guess I was just born 30 years too late.
To drag this back slightly towards the topic though- I find it amazing that the majority of women clamoring to be priests, are aging pro-choice ex-hippie types. Say what you like about misogyny in the Church, I find the womenpriests to be far scarier.
Don’t mind Ken, he’s just parroting what the expensive motivational speakers at a modern college orientation week say (in the “embracing diversity workshop,” of course). Having said that, this world would be less amusing without WomenPriests and their ilk…
Agree this is a very funny photo, and one that does nothing for the womynpriest (sorry, simply could not resist the spelling) movement………but I have to say no funnier than some I’ve seen of male cardinals dressed in frou-frou finery with amazing train lengths, lace, and pointy red shoes. Does anybody really believe a heterosexual male would want to dress in such a fashion, much less let himself be photographed in that kind of a get-up? I know my husband wouldn’t be caught dead in such drag! Some of the frippery and finery would seem more appropriate on a womynpriest, quite honestly.
Certainly it’s hard to imagine Jesus in lovely lacy drag and fabulous red leather designer shoes.
As an atheist, I am glad women are getting ordained; whenever women become the majority in any profession (and they’ll be the majority within 25-30 years in the Mainline Protestant churches that ordain them), that profession becomes lower status.
Clergy are witch doctors without the bones. All clergy look ridiculous.
