My two littlest and I spent most of yesterday at Summa Hospital in Akron. My bride, Michelle, Is expecting in August and had been admitted to stabilize her blood sugar; she has developed diabetes and they need to find a regimen that will keep her symptoms manageable. She was supposed to only be in the hospital for 24 hours, but when I talked to her this morning she reports that they have not been successful and she may be in longer.
I have taken off work -thank God for paid sick leave, fruit of the sacrifices of organized Labor- and have the rare occasion to try and keep on top of the household, which always makes me appreciate all Michelle does. This would have been infinitely more difficult were it not for the fact that our two year old, Will, is such a good-natured little man; all this and a fussy kid would be harrowing.
Pray that the doctors are able to stabilize my bride’s diabetes, that she have a smooth delivery with a healthy baby, and that she – and I – are able to endure whatever ordeal may come.
Thanks. (And if blog posts are rare or nonexistent in the near future, you know why)…
My wife just delivered on Friday (thanks be to God!) so this was a little late in coming, but yesterday my mom gave me a statuette of the Holy Infant of Prague from her childhood home and I discovered that that image is especially noted for helping expectant mothers. I’m wary of devotions so closely skirting idolatry and of the Romantic baby doll aesthetic I gladly left behind when I transferred churches, but I submit my personal misgivings to the wisdom of the Church and pray the Holy Infant Jesus who has revealed his power and his love for all mothers through the miracles in Prague will heal and protect your wife and unborn child.
St. Gerard and St. Ann for my wife. 10 years ago today she was clutching her necklace of Saints medals through a C-section after a horrific night of medical induction due to preclampsia. We think that is what caused my son’s disabilities- he wasn’t fully baked (spina bifida oculta) and 7 hours stuck in the birth canal didn’t help either (Cerebral Palsy).
Dan, you have our prayers.
Dear Daniel,
Your wife, unborn child, children and you are in my prayers.
Tony
You are all in my prayers.
Prayers ascending…
We will be praying for your family also.
Prayers for your family will be offered here in Pittsford, NY.
Praying for quick stabilization of Michelle’s blood sugars and an easy, healthy delivery. And for little Will’s continued good nature while you try to hold down the fort. (being a stay-at-home mother was one of the hardest things I’ve ever done–working full-time outside the home has been far easier!)
Just saw this! My prayers too, for your wife and baby and all your family!
