John Kiriakou

“Even if torture works, it cannot be tolerated — not in one case or a thousand or a million,” he wrote. “If their efficacy becomes the measure of abhorrent acts, all sorts of unspeakable crimes somehow become acceptable. … There are things we should not do, even in the name of national security.”

That is John Kiriakou, former CIA agent and the man who blew the whistle on torture. Now, the Obama administration has initiated the prosecution of Kirakou for alleged security lapses. Ironic; some of us had hoped that Obama would see justice done to those who initiated the torture campaign, but no, instead those who tortured and oversaw torture go free, while a man of principle may go to prison.

 Hope and change indeed.
