The Thrice Holy Hymn

A feature of the “new” CT blog is going to be an offering of sacred music every Sunday, from a variety of traditions. This is the beloved Thrice Holy Hymn of the Eastern Christian Divine Liturgy: “Holy God, Holy Mighty, Holy Immortal, have mercy on us.”

Georgii Sviridov was a composer of “hymns” to the Soviet state and to its heroes. It was only after his death that his sacred music was discovered, music that he never heard sung in his lifetime.

His hidden legacy is among the most sublime music ever written, secretly offered to God.
