One-time CetT subscribers may remember a bit of a quarrel between some people affiliated with various mostly small Catholic publications, including CetT, and the group that I like to call, borrowing the idea from "Chesterbelloc," the Nogelhaus: the prominent Catholic neoconservatives Michael Novak, George Weigel, and Fr. Richard Neuhaus. The little guys signed a statement called "A Civilization of Love: The Pope’s Call to the West" and we printed it in the magazine. Along with it was that issue’s FTE ("From The Editor") column, in which Daniel took a close and rather scathing look at the very tendentiously edited version of Centesimus Annus which was included with a couple of Nogelhaus books. Read them both here (the statement and the editorial, not the books).

Many thanks to Justin Nickelsen for transcribing the piece. And if there’s anyone else out there who wants to transcribe a favorite from the magazine, we would be happy to have your help. The archive has pretty much been languishing because I just have too much else to do.
