Ben and I interviewed some amazing young folks at the rally in NY. I think he has comics about this forthcoming. :)
Before everyone gets too excited–might a bit of a breather be suggested?
http://blog.american.com/2011/10/5-reasons-why-income-inequality-is-a-myth-and-occupy-wall-street-is-wrong/
Edge, your “breather” is from the Big Kahuna of neocon think tanks. Doesn’t carry much weight around here…
What do you find problematic about this article’s credibility?
Edgewise asks, “What do you find problematic about this article’s credibility?”
Actually a silly question, since the article references a number of other articles, all of which one would have to read and digest in order to evaluate the many assertions made. One would probably have to be a statistician also. Moreover, one can assume that the Census Bureau employs statisticians, and that they are probably as competent as those who produced the various articles and papers referenced – and probably less biased and more honest to boot. Lastly, notice the comments at the bottom of the article – many of them seem to raise quite serious objections to its methodology and conclusions.
The American Enterprise article is not to the point, here. It address income inequality, while the charts above address net worth, financial wealth, unemployment, and corporate profits. It is interesting too that a 2006 Citibank investment advisory letter had this to say that in North America: “the rich take an increasing share of income and wealth over the last 20 years, to the extent that the rich now dominate income, wealth, and spending in these countries.” See an article on this, with a link to the document in question, at: http://distributistreview.com/mag/2010/11/plutonomics-citibank-and-the-doom-cycle/
