Lent begins in a week for Western Christians, and it is only a few days away for the rest of us. This is the great Lenten prayer, by St Ephraim of Syria. (Icon by Matthew Garrett, whose work can be seen here: http://holy-icons.com/ )
Oh Lord and Master of my life, keep from me the spirit of indifference and discouragement, lust for power and idle chatter. (prostration)
Instead grant to me your servant the spirit of chastity, humility, patience and love. (prostration)
O Lord and King, grant me the grace to be aware of my sins without judging my brothers and sisters, for you are blessed now and ever unto ages of ages, Amen.
